Early Stages of 1st Greece Trip!

Hi there! My family and I (all 18+) have discussed doing a Greece trip June 2026. There would be 5 total, staying for approximately 10 days. We're really focused on making sure our mom has a great time since she has never been to Europe and worried she won't be able to do all the stairs. She is more of a beachy gal rather than a history buff, and us kids definitely want to see some historical sites!

We've mostly been using travel blogs, TikTok, and other sites to figure out a rough outline of what we want to do. Please give us suggestions or guidance!!

Day 1: Flying JFK to Athens
Day 2/Night 1: Arrive in Athens, fly to Naxos
Day 3/Night 2: Naxos
Day 4/Night 3: Naxos during day, mid-afternoon ferry to Paros
Day 5/Night 4: Paros during day, Ferry to Sifnos
Day 6/Night 5: Sifnos
Day 7/Night 6: Sifnos
Day 8/Night 7: Ferry to Athens in the morning
Day 9/Night 8: Athens
Day 10/Night 9: Fly back to JFK

Is this too much to try to fit in? Should we scratch Paros entirely? We want at least one fun night out and aren't sure if the nightlife in the other cities will live up to the hype of Paros.

We're willing to swap out some islands but are looking for any input from well-rounded travelers like yourselves! Also - we will most likely be getting a rental car. Also looking into AirBnBs and hotels.

It seems to me you're confusing visiting the Greek islands and island hopping with going from one attraction to another in an amusement park.

Each island is like a specific region that requires several days to see a part of it, and going from one island to another often takes a good part of a day.
You will spend two nights in Naxos, which is a single day. To visit Naxos properly, you would need at least a week. The same goes for Paros and Sifnos.

So there's no point in renting a car or hoping to visit anything, go to the beach, or enjoy the island, because what will happen is that you'll spend your time packing, checking out of your accommodation, going to the port, waiting for the ferry, taking the ferry (if it hasn't been canceled), disembarking the ferry, going from the port to your new accommodation, checking in, unpacking, discovering your new surroundings, etc.

There are no towns on the islands either; there are villages of varying sizes. The population of the capital of Paros is 4,000, and that of Naxos, the largest island in the Cyclades, is 7,000. This doesn't prevent these places from having a nightlife, even on Sifnos, which is the least touristy but the most beautiful in my opinion.

I didn't understand this reference to the Paros hype. There's no particular hype in Paros (I've been there quite a few times and stayed almost a month in total). Did you see that on TikTok?

If you want to have a lively night out, do it in Athens instead (I'm there quite often and can give some party-goers tips).

My advice is to choose just one island (and stay an extra day or two in Athens), this way your mom will stay at the beach while you explore the island by car. Everyone is happy. :)

I know Sifnos, Naxos, and Paros quite well. The trend on this forum is to go to Naxos. That's what you'll be advised to do, but it's up to you.

Note that from Paros you can easily get to Antiparos in 20 minutes by ferry.

Also note that from Sifnos there won't be a ferry arriving at Piraeus in the morning. In the morning, ferries leave Piraeus for the islands, not the other way around.

We were just in Greece 3 weeks ago. We flew into Athens, spent 2 nights there and then took the ferry to Milos We spent 3 nights in Milos and then took the ferry to Naxos. We spent 3 nights there and then flew to Athens for another day. We rented a car for 2 days in Naxos exploring and we felt that it was just the perfect amount of time there.
I agree that you are trying to fit too much into your itinerary and I would narrow it down to 2 islands and Athens. I feel that to see the majority of the archaeologic/ historical sites we needed 2 days in Athens.
We stayed in a fantastic hotel in Naxos which was the Naxian Secret. It's 10-15 min from downtown and 10 min from St Georges beach by foot. Its family run, looks brand new and serves a wonderful home cooked made to order breakfast. It's also 5 minutes from the airport .
