Driving in Greece Tips

I drove in Greece and it wasn’t very difficult. But there are 2 small things that are unique in Greece (I think) that I’ve learned that may be helpful:
1. When the road has 1 lane each direction and someone is trying to pass you, it is customary to move onto the shoulder to allow the faster person to pass you.
2. In roundabouts I believe the person in the roundabout yields to those entering it.

That's right! I'm driving in Greece right now and I would say those two points are very important.

I've driven on numerous Greek islands and for the most part driving is relatively easy and safe.

One hears horror stories about driving in Greece or Greek drivers but I've never had any bad experiences.

I've driven on mountain roads, dirt roads, through small villages and out of the way areas and for me it's an adventure and enjoyable.

Obviously they'll be people who don't drive safety (Greeks and Tourists) but so far it's been a breeze driving in Greece.

Common sense as usual will make driving safe and stress free anywhere.

One tip NEVER drive in Athens!

A few more tips -

Don't rely on the Google maps you have laboriously printed or even Siri - the road names are often long and you won't get to even the second syllable before you have passed it. Instead, research the towns in the direction you wish to go and head in that direction -then use Siri/Sat Nav in the town to locate a specific address.

Check the spelling of the placers you wish to go - in all their variety. The same place may have several different spellings, depending on the source I(e.g., Sparta, Sparti), which can be confusing as you drive along.
