Driving from Nafplion to Delphi

Do you think it's better to drive along the southern coast of the Gulf of Corinth to get to Delphi instead of heading towards Athens? It looks like it's a little faster going towards Athens, but the southern coast road looks like it goes along the water a lot of the way which might be more scenic.

We have always gone to Delphi on the southern route mostly because we also spend time in Nafplio. Its a fairly short trip to Patras and the bridge is pretty special across the gulf.

We always plan to be in Delphi the late afternoon before we go to the site. That gives us time to enjoy the village visit the museum and the lower site with manageable crowds. Next morning get to the site right at opening and you will be there with a handful of people. You will be half way up the site before the tour bus crowds arrive and you will be all the way to the top and starting down before the crowds reach you.

One thing about the southern route is you have an opportunity to stop at Corinth which has the canal, Ancient Corinth and right next door the amazing fortress at Acrocorinth. And a bonus ancient Nemia is on this route as well. It had sister games to Olympia and the stadium is still there.
