Drive to Prodromou or Philosophou Monastery

My sister and I will have a car and are planning to stay in Stemnitsa one night in late September. We'd like to hike between the Prodromou and Philosophou monasteries. I have a few questions. 1) Is one of the monasteries easier to drive to than the other? 2) Can we do the walk without hiking poles? (We're in our mid 60s and in pretty good shape). 3) Do you have a recommendation for a place to stay in Stemnitsa ( around $50-75 per night)?

We parked at a church and walked to both. You will come to Prodromou first. I don't see it on the map--you just drive down from Stemnitsa and it will be clear where to park. Watch out for sheep crossing, lol. Signage is typically good in the Peloponnese.
The second monastery is more modern, no real reason to go there. We followed a cat up, filled our water bottles, and we were not welcomed in by anyone. I'd say go there if you have a special interest.
The entire hike is really lovely. When you walk the other direction (away both monasteries), there is a cool stream near some ruins, maybe it is the old bridge.
I would not call it an easy hike because there are some hills, but I think you'll be fine without hiking poles.
I stayed in Zatouna at Hotel Archontiko Anyfanti and it was wonderful--I think in your budget for September. Check Booking.com to find something in your range. I do wonder how you will manage the hike with only one night. Two would be better if it fits!
