Hi
I just found out that the ferry from Palaiochora to Sfakion would arrive at 19:00 on June 19. And that there would be no ferry to Loutro that evening. We have a hotel booked for that night in Loutro. Taxi boats are available if Sea conditions are OK!
This leads to the possibility that if the sea is rough, I would not be able to travel to Loutro
In order to make sure that I would get to Loutro I am thinking about driving?
There is supposed to be a spectacular road trip in the lonely planet book that goes up to chania.
it goes up past the Samaria gorge, omalos and lakki.
Google maps has the entire route from Paliohora to Sfakion taking 3:20 hours.
Or a faster route to Chania pass Voukolies taking 2 1/2 hours.
I was counting on the ferry ride because its very beautiful but I think the connections might not work. I had heard about this drive up to chania and it is supposed to be incredibly beautiful. And if I leave at 8 AM it would guarantee that I would get to Sfakion early.
Are there any opinions about which road to take up to Hania? Is the slower road that much more scenic?
I know they're mountains roads and I know how to drive on them but any comments on the condition of either roads?
Any opinion on whether, the drive or the ferry is more beautiful?
Last question/ how much chance of the seas being too rough for a taxi to take you from Sfakion to Loutro at 19:30 in the evening.
Thanks for your help
