We will be traveling to Athens, Delphi, and the Peloponnesian Peninsula. We are not going to any islands. Is it safe to drink the tap water? By the way, when i traveled throughout Greece in 1976, I drank tap water with no side effects.
We just returned from the 14-day RS Heart of Greece tour. Athens tap water is fine, as was Delphi, Lagadia and Kardamyli. However our tour guide recommended bottled water for Monemvasia, Nafplio and Hydra. I don't think the tap water in those latter three locations was necessarily harmful, but it did taste a bit funky when brushing our teeth.
We’re in Kavala in the north at the moment and the tap water in our apartment is fine. In restaurants in the centre everyone drinks bottled water because, although safe, the tap is slightly flat tasting. We’ve been to Nafplio a lot and in some of the town have drunk from the tap and in other parts bought bottles. It’s safe everywhere but not necessarily pleasant.
My lodging host in Napflio told me to not drink tap water as it has high calcium content and doesn't taste good, but not harmful. She said that's the case in most of Peloponnese and I should stick to filtered or bottled water.
Pam, my doctor should dialog with yr hostess, as my doctor has me swallowing large amounts of calcium pills, and moving there might be the answer!
BTW, I drank the tap water every place we stayed in greece

That was our experience as well. Toothpaste didn't mix well with the water in Monemvasia, Nafplio or Hydra. We definitely recommend bottled water even for brushing.
We will be visiting Crete in addition to Athens, mostly staying between Chania and Heraklion. Is the tap water safe there?
The tap water in Chania is fine.
