We are planning to hike the Samaria Gorge. Staying in Rethymno and most tours leave from Chania. We would prefer to drive the rental car and park at the top of the gorge, but we know we have to catch the ferry from Ag. Roumeli to Chora Sfakion and we want to make sure the bus from Sfakion will get us back to the parking lot. Does anyone know if indeed there is a parking lot and if the bus will get you back there?
We are just back home from Crete. I do not have experience returning from Samaria gorge to Chora Sakion but we just a few weeks ago took the ferry from agia Roumili to Sougia, I believe you may get to Sougia sooner than the ferry going to Chora Sfakion. There will be a bus waiting for the ferry in Sougia and it takes you up to the top of the Gorge where you can pick up you car. Its a wonderful drive. Indeed there is parking for your car at the top of the Gorge.
Thank you for your response! So if I'm understanding it correctly, we can park at the parking lot at the top of the gorge, hike down, take the ferry from Ag. Roumeli to Sougia instead of Sfakion, and then we can catch a bus to the top?
That is correct. The bus from Sougia goes back to the parking lot at the top of the gorge so you can pick up your car there for the return drive to Rethymnon.
