Delphi itinerary

My wife and I are planning to visit delphi for two nights next year. Does anyone have a recommended sequence for touring the site and museum. Should we do the museum first then the site? I was considering visiting the museum right away in the morning, perhaps taking a drive down to galaxidi during the afternoon, then come back in the evening to visit the site itself after 1600. Any opinions would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

If you are there at high season, it would be good to visit the site before or after the tour buses arrive. Its about a 3 hour drive from Athens, so you should have plenty of time after they first open or a few hours before they close to get the site to yourself. The museum is nice, but can be seen mid-day when it is hot or when all the crowds are at the site.

Galixidi is a nice little seaside town (I was there offseason). With 2 nights in Delphi, you can easily make a sidetrip there (or better, stay there instead of charmless Delphi). Also nearby is the monastery of Hosius Loukas. It is a little off the main highway between Athens and Delhpi (signs and GPS make it easy). Charming place that welcomes visitors and one of the most intact Byzantine monasteries.

I think two nights in Delphi might be too many. Yes, I love the site, it has an amazing sense of place and you know why it's there. I would get to Delphi usually around noon, tour the museum so you have a good overview of the site, have a nice, relaxing dinner looking at the bay of Corinth, and a good night's sleep. The museum is wonderful: small, concise, easily digested. The next morning I'd be at the gate when it opens, usually 8:30, and beat the later busses that arrive full of tourists.

My usual trip then takes me to Olympia and I stop at Nafpaktos for lunch.
