Pro/cons to doing this on my own vs hiring a guide. Any opinion which is better the guides on the island vs the ones included in the pkg deal. Other ideas of things to do other than the beach on Mykonos?

We took the regular ferry which stopped about 3 hours on Delos and about 3 hours on Mykonos. We used the information in the RS book to get around Delos. We also used RS to walk around Mykonos but after having to run back to the boat on Delos, we returned to the dock early and just sat with our feet in the water. We did see tourists with guides getting off other boats and also guides on Delos offering their services but can't give you any advice as we didn't use them.

We used a guide as part of a "package deal" and are glad we did. A live guide in this case provided much more insight into things of significance than just trying to do it on our own even using the best of guide books. In either case, do not skip Delos -- it's unbelievably impressive.
