Daytrip to Delphi or Hydra

We have 1 day outside of Athens for a daytrip and are looking at either Delphi or Hydra. Any suggestions?

Depends on what you want to do. Either place is a good way to spend a day, but decidedly different experience

Visit an historic site , or wander about an island village for a few hours.

I do not recall exactly how long the boat ride was and nor how late in the day they left Hydra, but going there and back in a day may give you more boat time than island time.

The ferry schedule may have a big impact on your choice

The boat ride is 1 1/2 - 2 hours each way and the bus ride to Delphi is around 3 hours each way. We have the whole day so we'll just use the travel time to unwind a bit. Either island hiking or visiting ruins is equally fun for us so was just looking for suggestions. I guess we'll need to decide for ourselves.

Having been to both , I can say you will have a good day whichever one you choose.

Happy travels!

Both were wonderful. If you want a nice island experience then go to Hydra. We spent 2 nights there and enjoyed it immensely. If you're really interested in ancient Greek history, then go to Delphi. I thought it was one of the best places for ancient ruins and in such a beautiful area with the olive groves and sweeping vistas from Delphi itself. We spent 2 nights in each of them so can't really recommend one over the other as a day trip. I love any kind of boat ride and I remember that we saw dolphins on the boat ride to Hydra so that was fun. Both are worth the travel time so decide based on your interests.

Thanks Nancy and Joe for the input. I really appreciate it. This is the tail end of our trip so we somehow lost a day in the shuffle along the way. It's all good.
