Daytrip from Santorini to Folegandros

In late Jul I'll be in Santorini and am thinking about a day trip to Folegandros. The problem is Direct Ferries is showing a 10:10 departure on SeaJets from Santorini arriving at Folegandros at 11:00 with a 13:55 departure back to Santorini. Does this allow enough time to explore the hilltop town of Chora? Will there be taxis waiting at the port when the ferry arrives and will I have problems finding a taxi to get to the ferry just before departure?

Are there other ferry companies that operate this route, thanks?

You will not find a better ferry schedule, MaryPat. That is because the ferries are run mainly to meet the needs of the people who live on the islands... it is part of the whole infrastructure. They are not set up to facilitate day-trips by tourists. In order to do day-trips, you have to stay on an island like Naxos or Paros, which has companies with EXCURSION Boats, that operate specifically for tourist interests . Thos day trips leave earlly in the morning target islands (Mykonos & Delos/ or Santorini), and then return to the "home island" about 7 pm or later.

Santorini has only 2 islands where u can reach & stay for a few hours ... Anafi, I think, and from what I hear, there's nothing much to see/do there. THere are a few sailings to IOS, with the latest returns about 6:30 ;pm ... many people consider it mainly a beach island, in the high season a frat-boy kind of vibe.

If you're able to travel on July 29 you can get to Folegandros at 11am and don't have to return until 7:30 pm, arriving back on Santorini around 10:30pm. Check the Ferryhopper website.

Thank you, Janet and Lee, good feedback. I think it’s best to skip it because there’s no guarantee that a taxi will be waiting at the port upon arrival. Even if there is doesn’t mean there won’t be a line.
