I probably wouldn't consider this itinerary if it weren't for the fact that I have already purchased (2) tickets on Aegean for $564 that I am unable to use due to the fact that we'll now be arriving via British Airways. We will be arriving from London about 1:00 am on May 22 and I'm considering using my Aegean tickets to book a 7:00 am flight to Santorini with a return around 6:00 pm. I see that there are some tours available in Santorini where they pick you up from the airport and drop you off after your tour for your return flight. It's a 40 minute flight. It doesn't make sense to go all the way in to Athens to our hotel and come back especially if you have to be at the airport nearly two hours before a short hop like this. Aegean Airlines rules are that you have to rebook a fare that is equal to or higher than your original ticket and pay 51Euro per person to rebook. If I cancel the ticket altogether, it will cost 166 Euro. The crazy thing is that the online fare is only about 100 Euro roundtrip Athens to Santorini. Is this just me being silly and not wanting to waste money or does it make sense? Any advice regarding Santorini tours would be appreciated as well.
It sound like going to Santorini on a cruise ship—right? You would also book a day tour that covers all must-see in a few hours, so for me makes no difference. Check the Must-see Highlights tour: https://www.santoriginal.com/day-tours. It is a 5-hour private tour that covers all the famous spots you’ve seen in pictures, and they do airport pick-up. Most tours start after 9 AM, but you can request an early start at 7 AM to beat the crowds.
Then you will have the afternoon free. But I suggest you have some free time yourself spending in Fira town, where there are a lot of shops, restaurants, coffee shops, and generally it is the central area with some things to do around before going back to airport.
