Day Trip from Kardamyli to Diros Caves

Hi,

We are taking the RS Greece tour in October. We were thinking of taking a day trip to the Pyrogos caves on a free day. I was looking for public transportation or a tour from Kardamyli since we won't have our transportation. Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks,

Mary

Sorry to be pessimistic, but I don't think you'll find that to be a workable option. Rick's guidebook is not recommending it without a car. Greek bus schedules vary a lot by season and who-knows-what reason and usually are not reliably predicted by any source other than staff at the bus station the day before. Your guide will also have free time ideas for you, but hiking or relaxing are the main choices.

Mary:

Having just done this by car in March, I think using public transport will be difficult. The caves are located down the main road at the coast. Unless a bus goes all the way down there, it's a really long walk. If you do decide to visit, make sure to call ahead for the time if the last boat. We missed it by 15 minutes after leaving Kardamyli just after lunch. There are enough very interesting things to stop and look at that makes it worth a day trip by car.

Hi,

Thanks for both of your replies. We are going to wait & see how we feel when we get there, we will rent a car if we do decide to go.

You can see caves in the US. What you can't see is cozy Greek beaches, ancient ruins, abandoned Greek Orthodox chapels, and sunsets over the Mediterranean. Stay in Kardamyli and just chill--you won't regret it.
