Current Conditions in Greece

We are flying into Athens one month from today on October 2 and will be spending time in Santorini, Athens, Nafplio, and Delphi. To those who visited recently, can you shed any light on current conditions in those areas? Any safety, currency, or travel issues that we should keep in mind?

Also, does anyone know what we should expect regarding weather in early October? Thanks!

A friend was in Greece a few months ago and said there was a restriction on the amount of euros you could withdraw from the ATMs. Don't know if this is still in effect but might be something you should investigate.

We did not face any restrictions on withdrawing euros from the ATM. I withdrew Euro 200 in single transactions. The limit was more from our US bank which has $ 1000 as daily limit.

The €60/day Euro restriction is for native Greeks only. Visitors to Greece can withdraw as much as their bank allows.

If you are asking about safety, I returned from Italy and Greece on Aug 22. was in Athens, Santorini Nafplio among others- dId not see a single thing or person that would disturb anyone except the usual funky types at Monastiraki Square in the evening. Rode the bus and train in Athens with only the usual precautions. October is a lovely time of year to be in Greece. I think of the weather as being like California- sunny & delightful in the day and a little more pleasant in the evenings, with perhaps a light scarf /shawl or lightweight jacket if in a breeze. ( I am cold in the Caribbean in January.)

My friend was visiting family, that must have been the restriction.

We go to Athens and other parts of Greece every October and will be heading there this October. We have never had any problems with safety issues, demonstrations, protests, scams or otherwise. Common sense is your best weapon.

Athens is one of the safest cities in Europe but the one thing you should be concerned about are pick pockets or bag snatchers, especially in the Metro or crowded areas like Monistiraki Square.

Again use common sense and you'll be fine.

October is one of the best times to be in Greece, lower prices, less tourists and still very nice weather.

You'll love it!
