Cruise ship passenger looking to visit Delos from Mykonos

We are arriving in Mykonos on a cruise ship next month and would like to visit Delos. The cruise line has a 4.5 hour excursion that will get us on the local ferry to take us to Delos for $125 pp. Sounds like a lot of money to me. And I'm not clear if a tour guide on Delos is included or not. Can anyone tell me if we can get from our ship to the ferry and then get a guide when we arrive in Delos? And would that be a better experience and perhaps cost less? Or is there a local tour company that we can engage for this activity? Thanks!

As I recall we planned a trip to Delos and there was a ferry from Mykonos to Delos. Thankis to Covid we never got to take that excursion.
However there will be boats that will take you to Delos.
I just looked up a web site with that excursion.

The advantage of a ship "tour" is that they will not depart until you are back. If you go on your own, and the wind comes up, or the ferry is late, the ship could leave without you. Our Windstar cruise stop on Mykonos was cancelled because of bad weather, we went to a mainland substitute instead. We were told the bigger ships are often unable to get into Mykonos as well.

hey hey RobinM
i agree with Tim with taking the ship excursion. it may seem like a lot of $$$ but if you find another site may be at least the same amount or more along with how long is tour. it will be hot & windy, dress accordingly, comfy shoes, hat, suntan lotion, water..
how many ships will be in port adds thousands to do excursions.

click port, month, date in port. will show how many ships are there that day with arrival/departure times. you may see many grumpy/pushy/sweaty/loud voices to hurry on ships. look to see if docked or tendered when you get off ship.
we loved our greek island cruise several years ago leaving venice. mykonos had 4 ships in port & roamed around, down pretty streets people cleaning/gardening/ waving and some hand talking, window shopping, having local beer & appetizers near port before getting on board, santorini was so so crazy crowded/busy with 5 ships in port waiting for tenders for the thousands, then cable car or donkey ride/walk up donkey poo steps to top. went opposite of crowds to small neighborhood, churches, shops, small family owned hole in wall restaurant overlooking caldera and let family bring whatever greek food & local wine, was fabulous. corfu & crete we did private taxi tours booked ahead of time, sharing costs with couple others we met on cruisecritic.com great tour around parts of islands.
you are traveling during high summer season with so many wanting to travel here, there, & everywhere, doesn't seem like an off season anymore plus costs have gone up on everything with us all trying to make a living. always said to my traveling friends going "cheap" you get what you pay for.
you'll have a great time, enjoy it, go with the flow. friends are on 4 day cruise tomorrow from SFO to Ensenada to SFO to distress from working crazy hours and i'm on doggie patrol for miss maggie :)

We have been to Mykonos on two different cruises and did the Delos visit on one of our visits. We took an excursion and don't remember if it was with the cruise line or not, but it was definitely worth the visit.

Thank you, geovagriffith, for sharing your experience. We will stick with the cruise line excursion we have booked. I'm glad to know that going to Delos is a good choice. Happy journey, everyone!
