We are planning, to visit Crete in June 2023 for one week. We are hoping to stay in old town Chania. We are looking for Hotel recommendations .
In October 2019, we stayed right at water’s edge at the old port, overlooking the lighthouse, at the Elia Palatina. Breakfast was included, and was outstanding. There were stairs to get up to our room. Only drawback was a disco/bar on the far side of the harbor that played music with very loud bass late into the night. I’d consider staying there again for its superb location, atmosphere, and views, but hope the bar went out of business.
Amphora gets good mentions. Its right on the harbour.
On our last visit we stayed in a VRBO called the old Venetian house. Its just off the harbour on a back alley on a high point. It has a roof top lounge area with great views of the east side of the harbour and the White mountains. One issue though was the bedroom was on the third floor and the bathroom was on the main floor. That wouldn't have been a problem 20 years ago. if you know what I mean.
You might also search for hotels on Theotokopouluo Street . Its reasonably quiet street with lots of shops, small hotels, and tavernas. Its pretty quiet at night fro sleeping but is only a 2 minute walk directly onto the main harbour area.

We enjoyed our stay at the Elia Palazzo hotel on Theotokopoulou street in Chania last September. Lovely hotel, great breakfast. Our room had a balcony overlooking the picturesque street. There’s also a rooftop patio.
There do seem to be several Elia hotels throughout the city… Palatina, Palazzo, and others. They all look and sound like very good places.
We stayed right across the street from Elia Palazzo at Kiara Studios (https://kiara.gr/studios/) . We stayed in C1 which had its own roof top balcony off the room. We really enjoyed it but please note that there are two flights of stairs and the last one is very steep. There is a bakery a door or two down and a small grocery store across the street from it. This area is pedestrianized and we found it very quiet at night.
Friends enjoyed Casa Delfino in Chania.
