Greetings, All. I'll be in Crete in March and wonder if anyone can recommend a good place to stay? I'm looking for a Rick-Steves-level place -- no need for fancy or expensive, just safe and with maybe a little character. Also walking-distance to main sites -- and I'm a good walker... Many thanks!
We enjoyed the Dom Boutique Hotel. Easy walk to everything; good price point; great breakfast and professional customer service.

We always stay at Kronos hotel. Many rooms have sea view. Its a 10 minute stroll into the central area where there are tavernas and several historical buildings. Its well priced and family owned.
In Heraklion in October 2018, I spent a night in a hotel called El Greco. I don't remember anything wrong with the place. It is maybe a 2 to 3 star place. They had a small breakfast for no extra charge, a staffed desk, and a closet in the lobby where guests could store luggage before or after checking in or out. It might have been a 20 minute walk or not much more, to the archaeology museum and Koules Venetian fortress.
