CRETE FOR 6 DAYS....

Hello everyone!!
60 yr old here finally making it to Greece to meet my 20 yr old son who lives abroad for 6 days and 7 nights. I have chosen Crete because it seems to call to my old soul! I have done quite a bit of research on Crete and read thru many posts but have some questions if you have the time to answer.
We are meeting at the end of April. He flies in and out of Heraklion so the last night of our trip should be staying in that city since we both leave quite early in the morning the next day. The first night he arrives at about 6 pm and I will rent a car, pick him up and hope to stay somewhere else that night.
After spending many hours these are some of the places that look interesting: Kedrodasos beach, Imbros Gorge, Spili and driving through Kourtalotiko Gorge, botanical gardens, Katholiko monastery and the walk to the ocean, Milli Gorge, Plakias or Sougia, and maybe a half day to see some villages, and Chania.
We are open to any suggestion and are not set on any of the above except Imbros Gorge and Chania but as you can see, we like the mellower, less touristy (except for Chania) options.
Should we stay in one location or move around and where do you suggest we stay? And PLEASE! if we could get some help planning out our days with your suggestions.
Thank you so so much everyone!

We stayed in Chania for two weeks and covered most of Western. Crete from there. The exception was two nights in Loutro on the southern coast, a wonderful contrast.
