This August I will go to Crete. I ask those who have already visited some advice on what to choose: hotel or camping?
How are camping in Crete?

Depends on where you want to stay. Camping is not big in Crete - there are about 16 official campsites in the whole of Crete (check out the camping-in-greece.gr website for lisitings). According to the Crete Rough Guide (now a couple of years old) camping anywhere but an official campsite is illegal, even if you have landowners permission! Sounds like some of the campsites are pretty rough and ready - a staked out field with no facilities for example.
Good luck, Crete is lovely but busy at this time of year.
