Crete’s Archaeological museums: Chania vs Heraklion?

Hi,
If you had a short time in Crete and had to choose between the Archaeological museum in Chania or Heraklion, which would you choose? Is one better than the other?
I understand that the Heraklion museum has the artifacts from Knosos; whereas the Chania museum is new. Which one is not to be missed?
Thanks!

I edited my original response.
Are you visiting Knossos? I see that Knossos archaeological museum is a 15m drive from the Knossos archaeological site. I misinterpreted your question and assumed you meant the site not the museum. I recommend visiting both the Knossos archaeological site and archaeological museum. Chania is noted for being more atmospheric than Heraklion so if you can visit both Heraklion and Chania, do.

I found the previous response confusing. To answer your question there is no comparison. The newly remodeled archaeological museum in Heraklion is close to being world class for Minoan art and far and above exceeds the smaller regional museum in Chania. The Heraklion Museum should not be missed.

Thank you both, greatly appreciate the replies. Will be going to Knossos, and will be visiting Chania town. Sounds like we should spend our Chania time in town instead of in a museum. :) Exactly the feedback I was looking for. Thanks!

In Chania you want to visit the historical center and it's Venetian harbor.

In Chania you can also visit the Maritime museum. A refreshing change from the ancient artifacts and history of things you cannot pronounce or remember.
