Spending several nights in early June at a resort in the Costa Navarino area. Any suggestions for must see sights or daytrip ideas?

Messene is pretty amazing, I have read about Nestor's palace and the beach at Gialova.

Looking for suggestions within at most 45 minutes away. We're planning to drive the Mani area after our stay at the resort and also have several stops planned for before we arrive at the resort. Thanks for asking and for any help you can provide!

Messene is about an hour, but if you won't be seeing it otherwise, I highly recommend it--truly extraordinary and hardly any people around when we were there last May.
Otherwise I only know about Pylos-Gialova. The Bradt Guide to the Peloponnese is excellent.
