Corinth canal: worth the stop from Nafplion to Delphi to Athens

Hello,

We are planning to go to Delphi from Nafplion on the westerly route and from there to Athens. The plan is to leave around 7 AM, and make it to Athens by 8 PM. Is it practical to stop by the Corinth canal? It looks like a 20-minute detour, so adds 40 minutes RT. But how much time should I plan to budget for it. If it is a lot of time, we may skip.

I am thinking of hitting Delphi between 12-1 pm and spending 3-4 hours there. This includes a break for sandwich lunch (packed to save time).

I was thinking that the westerly route might be a bit different than the eastern (to Delphi) which practically pulls me all the way to very close to the outskirts of Athens. I know that it would save some time, of course to do the easterly route.

Suggestions? About priorities in Delphi too might be good to know. Thanks in advance!

I think the time at the Corinth Canal really depends on what you are looking to get out of the experience. For me it was a short photo op at best.

I agree with Carol.
Our Greek guide told us everybody she knows thinks the Souvlaki stand at the bridge is the best. It was really good!

Thank you! Perhaps we skip it and divert the time to Delphi. I am keeping four hours for the drive to Athens (have a 8:30 car rental return, SixT claims that they are open till then even though their website and my car reservation says 9 pm) which I hope will be enough.

We saved time to visit the area on our way between Kardamyli and the airport. We went into Cornith and made a photo stop and walk over the bridge. In hindsight I would have rather made other stops on our way to the airport.

I thought it was really cool to see, but it was also directly on our way. The Souvlaki restaurant nearby (not at the bridge itself but a few blocks prior in town) was one of the best quality to price ratios for food I've ever experenced!

We probably would've made the detour to see it because my husband is a bit of an engineering nerd but I wouldn't say it's a must see either.

We visited Corinth and the Corinth Canal on a day trip from Athens, it was worth the trip. We did a short cruise in the canal.

Delphi was a day trip from Athens that I took decades ago in my first visit to Greece. You get to see some countryside and a very historic place.

Thank you everyone! We skipped the detour, and went directly to Delphi which was really cool. In retrospect, it is possible that we would have had time to do the detour, however, we were perhaps also lucky that we did not get much traffic on the way to Athens. Perhaps an hour later and the picture would have been different. We left Delphi at just before 5 pm and were in Acropoli area by 7:30 pm.
