Corinth Canal - where/worth the stop?

Hi all. I searched the Travel Forum for information on the Corinth Canal but could use some more help.

We are driving back from Nafplio on a Sunday, going to the airport to return the rental car (likely using Athens Car Rental based on feedback here), and then taxi to our hotel. On the way, our plan is to see Epidavros and then stop by for a quick look at the Corinth Canal. I am having a hard time finding where to stop to get a view of the Canal. Does anyone have feedback on where to stop, or is not worth the time?

And please, any feedback on the route back or just driving back into Athens and the airport for car return is most welcome and appreciated. This will be our first time driving in Greece, and the information on the Forum regarding general driving tips is so helpful.

Thank you!

Since you're going to Epidavros on your way back to Athens, from Epidavros take route E10 along the coast to reach the beginning of the canal. The road is in good condition, with occasional beautiful views.

It's easier and more pleasant than stopping in the parking lot along the E94 motorway, and you'll see the submersible bridge that sinks into the water to allow ships to pass. Stop near the bridge and enjoy the view by walking across it.

After that, simply take the motorway to Athens Airport.

You will go right over the bridge of the Corinth canal. It will be hard to miss. Parking is available.

Have you tried Google Maps?

It will give pretty good directions anywhere in Greece and elsewhere.

If you have a cell phone and a rental car and it has a USB port that will help otherwise just use your phone and it will give a map and vocal directions on where to turn, exit, etc.

It works and saves a lot of getting lost and wasting time trying to find something.

I favor that coast road suggested by Jo-Lui ... it has the further advantage that, if you want to see ancient Epidaurus during your Nafplio time, you don't have to back-tract to your hotel ... just do it on the inbound trip. Everyone I've recommended this to has said it worked very well ... you just need to startt promptly after breakfast, if you want to get your car back to ATH aiport by 2 or so.

While you are in Corinth you might want to consider a stop at Ancient Corinth, its a good archaeological site and right next door is the huge fortress at Acrocorinth way up in the nearby mountain.

If you have additional time you could park your car, check out the canal and then the hiking path alongside the Canal. Its on the side away from Athens. There is some interesting stuff. What looks like a machine gun pill box, an abandoned rail line with bridge across the canal and on a rocky path you can see the scratches made by the boats that were dragged across before the canal was built.
