My sister and I are going to Greece in early October for 2 weeks. We are scheduled to be in Corfu for a day and there really isn't anything about attractions, etc. in guidebooks. Can anyone suggest things of interest to see and/or do? We both like local treasures, historical sites, culture, and local arts and crafts.
Thanks!
Find the Corfu forum page on the Trip Advisor website. At the top of the page click on "Things to do". That list will be about as complete as you'll find anywhere.
The Main Street in the old part of Corfu town is wonderful. The antique buildings house all kinds of restaurants and shops, and it is fun to just walk. My sister-in-law and I took a hop- hop-off bus tour of the area, but the lines to get back on the bus at each stop were long, so we never got off. But it is a double decker bus and sitting on the open top deck gave us great views of the island.
Just one day? Does that mean you're visiting off a cruise? If so, the cruise port is about a half hour walk from old town or there will be a shuttle bus. We walked it. The first place you come to is the ruins of the New Fort which was built by the Venetians in the 1500's. At the other end of Old Town is the Old Fort that was built a couple of hundred years before. Like was said in another comment, Corfu is the type of place you just wander. It's got a very Venetian look as compared to other Greek locations that look....well, Greek.
In Corfu Town there’s the Campiello neighborhood and the Corfu Market in the old town.
