We are a family of 3 from South Africa, travelling to Corfu for 5 nights with our 2.5-year-old toddler.
We are looking for advice on the best area to base ourselves. This will be part of a longer Greece/Albania/Montenegro trip, so for these 5 nights we mainly want to slow down and enjoy Corfu rather than spend the whole-time sightseeing.
Our priorities are:
🏖️ Beautiful beaches – preferably some sandy or child-friendly beaches with relatively calm/shallow water.
🚤 A boat trip – ideally a half/full-day trip to beautiful coves, caves or nearby islands.
🍽️ Evening atmosphere – this is important to us! We would love to walk out of our accommodation in the evening, stroll through a pretty old town/harbour/village, have dinner and enjoy the local atmosphere.
👶 Toddler friendly – somewhere reasonably easy with a stroller, where we don’t need to get into the car every evening. Our little one is an easy traveller and usually sleeps in his stroller while we are out.
🌅 Authentic/local feel – we’d prefer a beautiful village/harbour/old-town atmosphere rather than a large resort or all-inclusive area.
- Where would you recommend we stay? We are currently considering:
Corfu Town
Kassiopi
Paleokastritsa
Gouvia
Benitses
Dassia
or somewhere else you think would suit us better.
We don’t necessarily need to stay directly on the beach if there is a beautiful village/old town with restaurants and atmosphere within walking distance, and we can drive to different beaches during the day.
- Would you recommend hiring a car for the full 5 nights? We are happy to drive, but with a toddler we don’t want to spend hours driving every day.
Would it be better to:
hire a car for the whole stay,
use buses/taxis and book a boat trip,
or perhaps hire a car for only 2–3 days?
3. Which beaches are your absolute must-sees?
We’d love recommendations for 3–5 beaches that are particularly suitable with a toddler, as well as any beautiful hidden coves worth visiting.
- Boat trip recommendations? We’d love to do one really good boat day rather than a big touristy cruise if possible.
Would you recommend:
renting a small private boat,
a private skipper,
or joining a group boat trip?
We’d especially love beautiful turquoise water, swimming/snorkelling and secluded coves, rather than partying.
- Where would you stay if this were your trip? If you had 5 nights in Corfu with a 2.5-year-old, with beaches during the day and lovely walks/dinners in the evening, where would you base yourselves and why?
