Hello, I need some guidance on planning an upcoming trip. Five of us will be traveling from San Francisco. I have already booked a cruise to Athens, Greece, that departs on July 31st and returns on August 6th. Since we will already be in Europe, we want to make the most of our travel and explore Italy or Switzerland before heading to Greece. We plan to start our journey on July 24th and reach Athens on July 30th to catch our cruise. We will need a bigger budget to visit both countries. We are also considering exploring Crete in Greece instead. The itinerary for the cruise is as follows: Day 1 - Athens City Tour, Day 2 - Mykonos, Day 3 - Kusadasi & Patmos, Day 4 - Crete and Santorini, and Day 5 - back to Athens. I would appreciate any suggestions and recommendations. Thank you!

You leave SF on 7-24 and arrive in Europe on 7-25?
You could fly to Rome and spend time there then fly to Athens at least a day early and see things that are mot included in your Day 1 Tour.
When and from where do you fly home?

Get a map, puts some pins in it to understands and transportation options. You should fly into Athens prior to your cruise and come home from either Italy or Switzerland depending on what you decided to see. Invest in a couple of good guidebooks to help you decided. Hit your public library and check out some travel DVDs for those areas. You cannot see all of Europe in that time period and pick on a couple of areas and do it well.
