Compression packing cubes

Yes, I use them all the time. There are different products that are considered compression packing cubes.

The ones I have are an old version from Eagle Creek. They are lightweight sil-nylon and have a zipper for the cube and then an additional zipper you close when it's packed and you want to squish it down.

I do not like the big ziplock bags that you either suck the air out of with a vacuum cleaner or squish the air out of by leaning on them and having the air exit via one way valves at one end of the bag. They are too big and bulky. Unfortunately Rick sells these in his store and I don't recommend them.

We have been using these for years https://amzn.to/3RR9MZc. They do not offer any extra compression, but the process of zipping them when neatly packed results in a smaller package than the clothing items alone. They really help with organizing our bags and without too much compression, keeps bag weight manageable.

I tried the ones Pam referenced but they resulted in lumpier pack which, IMO, did not save any space.

Like Pam, I don’t like the vacuum bag approach. Results in more wrinkles and weight. Also, avoid packs made out of heavier fabric. You don’t want more weight!

I don't think I paid anything like that much for mine. One I found in the free pile at the dump.

I second the use of the type packing cube that is NOT a compression cube per se, but does the job by confining the neatly folded or rolled clothing into a tight zippered, breathable, square edged cube. Just zipping it shut effectively "compresses" your clothes. When you arrive at your destination the cubes can be placed directly in drawer (or increasingly in the hip, less expensive hotels) on a shelf. I have traveled with the old style, indestructible Eagle Creek version (no longer made) for decades. And would never travel without them. They are easy to pack, you can see what's inside, and they keep your clothes from touching the actual interior of a hotel dresser drawer. I see there is a very similar appearing product on the Lipault website -- Travel Accessories Set of 3 Packing Cubes.

The main problem I see with real compression cubes of any sort, is that it allows (encourages) overpacking because you can fit so much more in a smaller space. But the more you can fit in your suitcase, the more the entire suitcase weighs. Which leads down a road I do not want to take.

I tried them on our last trip and I felt they added too much weight and not enough compression. I have the Thule. If I use them again, I will try one of the other brands.

Rick's brand of packing cubes, three for $22.99, have served me very well during many trips and to this day. They are lightweight, functional and sturdy.

I have the Lewis & Clark ones that G3rrycee recommends and I think they are the very best. They are so light weight-much more so than others I have bought.

I even converted my husband to using them!

I love packing cubes but I usually only use 1 one compression cube a trip because I use them for undies and jammies. Everything else gets a little too wrinkly in compression cubes. I only take so many pieces of clothing that comes to whatever weight I’m aiming for and it works better in regular packing cubes. I have had lits of cubes. I'm now using a Thule M compression cube.

Bit, I saw these on Amazon and got offered a $3 coupon. So, for $7 I bought them. They weigh next to nothing, won't last forever, but I have found a use for them.

I think you either love them or hate them, I fall into the latter category. Three factors against them for me are extra weight, extra time involved in packing and fitting into suitcase, especially if you are on the move, and the cost of them. The sets never seem to have enough of the size you need. They really don’t seem to save space and clothes always seem to wrinkle whatever you do. Try and borrow some to try them out before buying.
