Choosing an airline for Athens to Paros

Hi all,

I will be traveling to Greece (with two nieces, 20 & 18) for the first time in May 2024. We have already booked our flights from Chicago to Athens We will stay in Athens for a few days, then travel to Paros. We are now looking to book the roundtrip flight from Athens to Paros. Rick recommends Aegean Airlines, Olympic Air, and Sky. Does anyone have a preference?

Thanks in advance,

Sharon

Aegean and Olympic are essentially the same airline. I believe that Olympic is the airline that flies to Paros. I assume you are also inquiring about Sky Express rather than Sky. While I tend to think Aegean/Olympic is superior, if price and timing on Sky Express is better for you I would not hesitate to fly with them. We have used them several times and never had a problem.

Not sure if your trip only includes Athens and Paros however many regular visitors to Greece choose to fly to their first island same day on arrival in Athens. Getting over jet lag on a laid back island is way better than doing it in busy Athens, You should be sure you are back in Athens at least the night before your return flight so doing Athens at the end of the trip makes a lot of sense.

Check the cabin baggage policy carefully when booking your flights to Paros with Sky Express or Aegean/Olympic, flights are operated on 42 or 72 seat ATR turboprops which have smaller baggage size rules

I've flown numerous times with Aegean/Olympic with no problems. They are very efficient, safe and highly rated.

I've never flown with Sky Express but from most accounts they are also a good option if their prices and schedules are better suited to your needs.

As another stated make sure you know what you are getting with the ticket, especially luggage and weights limits.

Hi all,

Thanks for the insight into those three airlines. I appreciate the feedback. Due to one of my niece's availability, we will begin our travels in Athens, then move on to Paros and one other island. We will be back in Athens the night before we return to the U.S.

I flew on Sky Express last year and they were good - no complaints. I can't remember the last time I've flown on a turboprop plane before that but it was fun

I have flown on all three. Sky Express and Aegean most recently last fall.
All are fine.

I would choose based upon schedule and price.
In any case it will likely be a prop but you can check online when booking if that is a concern. It is not for me.

A prop plane will be fun! I'll be sure to warn my nieces so they are not surprised. :)

Thanks,

Sharon it's a Turboprop... it won't be that evident when you are seated & aloft.

Tell your nieces that the ATR42s are very safe planes, not very noisy, not too uncomfortable and during a 45 minute flight from Athens to Paros it will have consumed less kerozene than a Boeing 747 which spends 10 minutes on a taxiway to reach the runway takeoff

This is an ATR 42:
