Cheap cities to fly to Athens or Santorini in from?

Hi everyone! I am planning a typical cheap early twenties backpacking style Eurotrip and have made it a goal to find flights or transportation for two people under $200 CAD into whichever cities I have planned! So far I have found some great deals but I have found it increasingly difficult to find a flight that meets this requirement for my wife and I into Athens.

  • We will be in Europe from mid July to mid August.
  • Two travellers two bags
  • Have found some cheaper ones under 200 from Budapest and Palermo, but am not necessarily planning on going to these two cities.

Any tips or advice would be much appreciated!

On a search engine like www.skyscanner.com, you can widen your search at least to country level, such as from Italy to Athens, etc. Several Italian cities do have nonstop flights to Santorini, at least in high season.

Flew from London Gatwick on Thomas Cook Airlines to Santorini a year or 2 ago and it was much cheaper than anything else . Not sure where else they fly from and it is not every day. Worth checking their website .

London, Paris, Vienna, Rome and more all have flights to the islands and Athens. Check skyscanner, do the calendar monthly view

Go to the desktop site of Kayak (it’s not on the mobile site).
Scroll to the bottom and you’ll find a link to Direct Routes.
On the direct route page you can put in an airport, like Athens, and a month then it will give you every airport that has direct flights to that city and also the airlines.
Should be easy then to see which cities might be possibilities that have low budget airlines.
Then check the airlines for the exact price for your possible dates.
This is how I plan my travels. Nonstop is the only way to fly.
