Chania - # of days?

We are going to Greece, getting into Chania late afternoon, so just going to relax and have dinner at night. The next day we are doing a catamaran tour, the next day a wine/olive oil tour, and then we're flying to Athens in the morning of the next day.

Is it wise to take just extra day in Chania to relax and walk around town? Is there enough to do on our own if we don't want to do a full day tour?

If so, can anyone recommend things to see and do that extra day.

We spent four nights in Chania and did not take any day trips. It really is a lovely city to wander in and I think it would be a shame if you only use as a base to explore.

We did not take any tours.

My wife and I spent 7 nights there last Spring with our 2 adult children. We rented a car for 2 days for short day trips and enjoyed it very much.

If we had more time we would have been even happier since it is such a great place . It can get a little crowded during the day especially when there is a cruise in the nearby port but nothing like Santorini. For us it was always pretty mellow in the evening. Really good food!

What Beth said. Chania is delightful. I spent 4 full days and would have been happy with more.

Chania is delightful indeed. Highlights include the Archaeological Museum and the Venizelos tombs. Or spend a lazy afternoon wandering the lovely narrow streets of Splantzia quarter, a part of the Old Town that is somehow -and luckily- overlooked by the majority of the cruiseship crowds.
