So as part of a much longer trip (Albania the first 2 weeks), I have planned to ferry from Corfu to Igoumenitsa, rent a car, and slowly make my way to Thessaloniki.
However, I finally got around to the car rental portion and, unlike some other countries, the one way - even though it’s the same country - just about doubles the price. So I am looking at other possible options.
One option is to bus from Igoumenitsa to Ioannina (where I plan to stay a few days), rent a car in Ioannina for a week or so, and then return it there. Then bus to Thessaloniki. It’s a bit of backtracking but not much if it cuts my rental cost in half. Backtracking to Igoumenitsa is several hours more…..
However I am not finding quick info on car rental in Ioannina (although I see rental companies to start with). Has anyone got any experience up in this part of Greece? Or have a rental company to recommend? (Neither AutoEurope nor AutoUnion are finding Ioannina as an option they offer.) I know we don’t see much here about northern Greece - and I have read all the TA threads.
Any other holes to poke in my plan? (Other than you don’t like Corfu….)
