If you're going to be staying in Nafplio, why not ask your hotelier? E-mail him/her beforehand, and state what kind of car -- small, larger, stick shift (most are) or automatic (rare & usually on the upscale choices). If u are planning to come in by bus & then rent a car, best to google "Nafplio rental agencies". coming to Nafplio with friends, I have done car rentals several times, no problems, cannot remember agencies. Off season, u should be able to get one for €35. But then, u also didn't say when.

doing a search on expedia, it appears europcar is the only choice in nafplio

Costello, what you mean is, only one agency has paid to b e listed by expedia. I simply google "Nafplio Car HIre" (often the word Hire, being the common term in Europe, brings in more links). I found a google map with severl -- Euro Rent a car, Staikos (a long established car/travel agency) and Hermes. When I clicked "More Places" I got Safeway, and Aspida (with offices in Nafplio and Tolo)..

Again with Janet's post . . . some of the best recommendations can come from your accommodation's owner. They knew the area, the shops, markets, tavernas, transportation and best prices.

Don't be afraid to ask for suggestions and/or help from them. For the most part they will do what's best for you . . . most of the accommodations are family-owned operations that serve their customers rather than big business and aren't out to rip you off.

Of course there are no guarantees but you'll usually do much better asking the accommodations what their recommendations are.
