Just starting to plan a trip for later Sept/Oct, about 3 weeks. hope to follow Rick's tour of Peloponnese mostly but include Meteora and spend a little longer some places. I'm confused about where I would drop off the rental car before going to Hydra. Also on arriving on Hydra, do we stay right near the ferry landing or lug our luggage around to a more distant place?
Re road trip, how challenging is the road to Meteora? Are there other options I should be considering?

We toured around the Peloponnese a few years ago and ended in Hydra also. We dropped our car in Ermioni and caught the ferry there. We used Pop’s cars in Athens for the rental.

Thanks for those replies. We will drive from Athens through a number of places, ending in Epidavros before heading to Hydra. plan to go back to Athens from Hydra

Most accommodations in Hydra are within 5 minute walk of the ferry landing, some right on the harbour so just 1 minute.
how challenging is the road to Meteora?
The drive from Athens to Meteora is awesome. Take a paper map or be sure that your GPS is updated, because there is a relatively new highway for part of the route. The route takes you right by the Thermopylae battle site, if that interests you (although there is not much to see now). The funnest part of the route is a windy little pass you go through north of Lamia. Plug the route into Google Maps and you'll see it. It was a really enjoyable day, for us, doing this drive.
