I am planning a trip to Crete Greece. I was wondering if anyone has did any camping in Crete Greece?

I have not camped on Crete. However, I have planned a ten-day trip there for this coming summer, and in the planning, have come across several mentions of camping. Here is one link from some guided kayaking thing that mentions where they will camp for a night or two:

Eslewhere I have read of people camping ad-hoc on the coast between Paleachora and Elafonisi beach. I would imagine that if you googled the inquiry, you'd find a lot of information. Or, you could look for outdoor stores on Crete similar to REI or EMS (google "outdoor stores" or something like it) and email them. I emailed a rock-climbing guide and ended up in an email conversation about other Crete outdoor topics. Plus, are you planning to bring your gear or rent it (because if the latter, you would want to know where to rent it in the first place, so need an outdoor store ...)
good luck

Lonely Planet guidebook has a number of mentions of camping sites in Crete. I remember reading about 'Camping No Problem', a camping area near Agia Galini, for example, http://gogalini.com/camping It seems like camping is more frequently mentioned on the south coast than the north coast. Generally the south coast seems less developed. Also, since the E4 crosses Crete roughly East-West there should be some way to plug into online communities about the E4. There are also mountain huts associated with the E4: http://www.completely-crete.com/E4-path.html Are you camping to save money, or are you day/thru hiking, or other motivations?

Thank you Jessica and Lia for the replay.
I am an outdoors adventure person.

I happened to stumble across a camping websight, then someone replyed that the pictures on the websight
didn't look anything like the campground. So that is why I posted here.
I am liking the Kayaking and camping websight that Jessica attached, now to investigate that.
