Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner restaurants in Athens

Hello - we are headed to Greece in Sept 2024, and will be spending 2.5 days in Athens.

What are your best recommendations for restaurants? Looking for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner recommendations.

We are staying at The Foundry Suites -- so looking at restaurants in that rough area. We like to walk, but open to a drive. We tend to like less touristy, but open to all recommendations. Thanks!

Athens is a very big city, it takes more than 2 hours to cross the city from north to south on foot, and there are thousands of restaurants. Where will you stay in Athens?

The Foundry suite is just at the west end of the Psiri district, one of the liveliest in the city with a mix of tourists and Athenians, plenty of bars and restaurants every 10 meters.

Right next to the Foundry there is a grocery store "Athenian Deli" which also serves as a restaurant (in the basement) and where you can also have sandwiches or snacks.

For lunch, go to the Central Municipal Market, it's a 10-minute walk.

There are restaurants in the outer aisles of the market, try Aris Tavern or Oinomageireio Epirus

Aris is on the north side of the market (Sofokleous street side)

Oinomageireio Epirus is on the south side (Evripidou street side)

For an evening drink after dinner check out the Tarzan Bar, down the street

Since you are talking about "drive", I hope you do not intend to drive a car in Athens!

I just got back from Athens, and I found this gem called Birdie Bar & Brasserie. It's not too far from The Foundry Suites and has a great mix of breakfast, lunch, and dinner options. I’m usually skeptical about places with a bar near wynyard, but this one surprised me with its cozy vibe and delicious food. For breakfast, you might want to try the local bakeries for some fresh pastries and coffee. For lunch, the spot around the Monastiraki area has fantastic Greek salads and souvlaki. Dinner can be a bit more adventurous with some local tavernas where you can try authentic Greek dishes.

Even if I suspect that this is a suggestion that may seem weird, but if you are tired of tzatziki, souvlakis and other moussakas, (I can understand that because even as a lover of Greek cuisine, after 15 days in Greece I admit that I am always happy to return home to find my Camembert and my baguette), so note that the next two weekends (September 20-22 and 27-29) there will be a... burgers festival in Athens.

It's called Burger Fest and it's in the Gazi district, a 15-minute walk east of Monastiraki Square. Entrance :5€.
