We will be in Athens for the first time for three night at the end of May and would like to stay in a nice nice boutique hotel in a central location. Prefer a place with character, but also comfort. Any recommendations?
Grand Bretagne Hotel is considered the best hotel in Athens. Also King George.
Thank you, those both look beautiful, but are a bit pricey for us. I'm hoping to find a smaller place that has some character, but not quite so expensive.
I am not a specialist in Athens hotels because I always stay in Airbnbs, but I know the city well and can give you two "with character" recommendations that are more affordable than the Grande Bretagne Hotel (4 to 5 times cheaper) and who seem to be unknown to RS regulars.
The Acropolis Select Hotel

and the Acropolis Hill Hotel
Both are well located and have a roof top restaurant bar with a view of the Acropolis.
"Character" can be subjective, but we had a great stay at InnAthens Hotel. https://www.innathens.com/
We stayed at Plaka Hotel. The location was fantastic. The rooftop bar and restaurant were wonderful. The breakfast was also great. The rooms were fine - maybe a little small and dated, but beds were comfortable and we had a small balcony. We weren't staying in the rooms much other than sleeping in any case. We didn't have any issues with noise.
AVA Hotel. or the AthensWas. Both small, boutique, excellent locations. Offering Acropolis view rooms. The AVA is a our go to for years now.
Thank you all! A cautionary tale: virtually all of these (except the two luxury spots) were completely booked for the weekend I wanted in May. Ended up booking the Acropolis Stay Hotel, which gets good reviews on Trip Advisor. FIngers crossed!
