booking flights from Athens to the islands

It was suggested to book flights early for June. Can I ask what a good price would be. Right now a one way flight from Athens to Santorini is running $175 one way. All flights are available so I can wait if this it looks like it is running high. If this is a pretty standard rate, I will book now. Thanks.

Do you know what exact day you will want??? And what time of day?? June is "Bridezilla Month" so certain dates/times will fill up early. Example: nonstops from USA/Canada all typically arrive from 9 - 11 am. There is usually a Santorini flight at about 12 or 1. Saturday or Sunday is a t ypical day of arrival, so those noonish flights will sell out early. And those flights are the most expensive -- the early morning & late-night flights are much less than "prime time".

If you arrive on a weekday, and more flexible on flight time, other flights you can wait on. About January Aegean starts announcing "promotions" i.e. "10,000 tickets on sale for XX, XX, XX (destination names), for _____ (dates, such as April - June)". You can get fastest news about these by "subscribing" to the Aegean "newsletter" (it's really just an e-mail alert). Go to this website:

-- pay attention... and when your date pops up, POUNCE. You might get a ticket for $50 or so.

We flew to santorini the third week of May this year on a Sunday. Flight was noonish which was cheaper than later. I bought tickets in January I think. They were less than $100 but certainly not $50. I bought the flex tickets which were a bit more on the off chance we might miss the flight. Part of our party was coming from US that morning.

There are lots of flights to santorini .

I would wait a bit.

You're right, Beth ... I was thinking about tickets to smaller, less famous islands, such as Milos. Santorini always is higher.

Thanks everyone.
Janet it is a Sunday but I will be flying after dropping off a car so my time is flexible. I checked that week and all flights are the same price on every day and each seems open, so I will check every few weeks and put my name in with aegean air. I was primarily interested in seeing what the typical rate was and when people purchased. Thank you Beth. If I see it going down to $100 or if it looks like some times are started to get snatched up I will purchase. I will be needing return seats from Naxos 7 days later so will be looking at those too.

There are fewer flights and seats from Naxos. I think I paid $75 when there was a bit of a sale after the first of the year. I had heard of people getting really good deals but I was a bit too risk adverse to wait too long.

www.skyscanner.com

A good source to compare inter-European flights, especially one-way. IFor example, it currently shows flights next June for under $100 one-way on Olympic, which is operated by Aegean.
If you are coming from North America and want to spend time in Athens, a multi-destination search function may be able to arrange your transfer to an island hop as part of your ticket. Aegean, for instance, is part of the Star Alliance group that shares tickets.
