Where are the best places to see birds in the Peloponnese or Crete or around Delphi the first two weeks of October?
The most famous place for birding in Greece should be Lake Kerkini, but I have no idea if that is anywhere near your route.
My own birding experience in Greece has been somewhat disappointing. The guide books will tell you any number of birds you might be able to see, but since hunting is so prevalent in Greece, many birds' flight distance is huge, so you will get to see them only at a very long distance.
Thanks for your reply, the only one I have received. It doesn't sound like I'll be doing much birding, although I guess I will take my binoculars. I'll have to look up the place you mentioned, as I don't know where it is either.
If it's not too far off your route, I am sure Lake Kerkini is well worth a visit. Have a look at this.
Kerkinni looks great but it will have to wait for another trip. We're not going near this time. Thanks for your advice though.
