The 4 places mentioned above are the ones that seem to be most highly recommended to visit in Athens. From what I have read, it is best to see the Acropolis Museum first to get a good overview of what to expect at the Acropolis itself. So on Dec 20, we plan to be at the museum at 9am for a couple of hours. However, that will bring us to 11 am which is the busiest time to see the Acropolis (between 10am-2pm). We would like to avoid the crowds and are thinking that we should go for lunch, then visit the Agora & the Temple of Hephaestus before ending up at the Acropolis around 2.30pm. This will give us 2.5 hours before the closing time of 5pm. Is this a good plan and doable? Will the Acropolis be very busy around 10am-2pm on Dec 20?
Totally disagree.
Visit the Acropolis first thing in the morning when it's still cool and the crowd is less.
Then visit the Acropolis museum. and you can have lunch at the Acropolis museum cafe.
IMHO, The museum doesn't give an overview of what to expect-- because none of the things in the museum are standing in the Acropolis. They are all now in the museum..
Been to the Acropolis twice and the Acropolis museum twice and each site can be seen in either order.
The RS tour of Greece visits the Acropolis first and then the museum.
The walking tour I took another year visits the Acropolis first and then the museum.
But that's my humble opinion.
You do you.
I agree with Derek. Acropolis first. When I went, I go there when it first opened. There was no wait at all. When I left a couple of hours later, there was a long line waiting to get in.
After the Acropolis, I walked over to the Acropolis museum.
Thank you very much for your feedback. So helpful. I was leaning towards visiting the Acropolis first as it would be a better flow of time until I read some feedback that suggested that seeing the Acropolis museum first is highly recommended. So it's good to hear of other feedback that offers a different opinion. Thank you!
I agree with the others. The Acropolis Museum is a convenient and enjoyable place to have lunch.
I don’t think the heat will be a problem on Dec. 20
