Best transportation from Piraeus to Athens airport

My husband and I will be disembarking from a cruise ship in Piraeus...starting at approximately 8am..on Sunday, September 18th then flying to Rome. A couple of questions, first what would be the best way to travel from Piraeus to the Athens Airport? Second question....I’m trying to decide if a 12:45 pm flight is unreasonable or would a later flight be more prudent. Thank you for your help....this is our first trip to Greece and we are so excited

Does the cruise line offer a transport to the airport?

A taxi is likely to take 40-50 minutes. Public transit likely to take twice as long.

Making a 12:45 flight to Rome should not be a problem, as long as the boat docks ( close to) on time and you are off by not much past 9:00.

How much later is the next flight?

Thank you. I will check with the cruise ship to see if they have a transportation option! The next flight is around 7:30....which, if we miss our flight...and seats available...could take. Once again thank you for your response

If the cruise company don’t offer transfers I would use Welcome Pickups

They are easy to book, reliable and fairly priced.

There are public transport options - metro to Monastiraki and change to the airport line or an express Piraeus to airport bus - but both depart some way from the cruise port. You won’t save much money and, assuming you have luggage, will face a lot of hassle.

I guess your ship is going to arrive in the cruise area of Piraeus port.

As Alan pointed out, the cruise ship arrival terminal is very far from the metro station (almost a 30 minute walk with suitcases)
Take a cab if nothing is planned to take you to the airport and you want to catch the 12:45 flight
