I am looking for the best offline map as I will not have a data plan. Rick Steve’s recommends “Apple Maps, OffMaps, and Navfree—”
I have used CityMaps 2go but have used up my one free download. I would like to put in the Rick Steve’s walking tours.
What has worked for everyone with no data plan?
Google Maps - but only for driving. No walking or public transit directions (yet).
Your phone is not unlocked? Too bad - SIM cards are super cheap, and having a working phone without relying on WiFi has helped me a lot on my last few trips.
I don’t want to take out my tiny SIM card out.
Offline maps of what? Athens? Peloponnese? Nafplio? If you stay in athens, almost every hotel has a wonderful fold-up map from SMILES (a restaurant) that is the BEST walking-around map of Central athens. It is also available online. But be more specific.

In the past, at the ATH Airport Newsstand I have bought ROAD EDITIONS maps of Pelopponese & Crete. If you want them in advance, many maps can be ordered online.... that's what R Steves probably is referring to. For Central Athens maps to look at online, I thnk the "Smiles" map- http://www.orangesmile.com/destinations/img/athens-map-big.jpg -- is THE best - has ALL street names AND in English. THe only online map that prints big enough is https://www.athensguide.com/map/athens.htm -- you need to use horizontal page setting & it takes 1/2 of page 1 a full page 2, and half of p 3... and you paste together. Or just order online.
i was in Athens in Nov/18 and i found it frustrating that the only 'hand-out' maps available did NOT cover anything but the downtown part of Athens. since i was staying in the North...there were NO maps available! i am therefore looking into some kind of GPS device so that i can more thoroughly explore all the neighbourhoods of Athens.
