Hi there. We will be driving for eight days around Attica and the Peloponnese in Early June. Just me and my husband, with only carry on luggage. I was wondering about what kind of car to rent. Typically we rent a SUV in the US, because we like to be comfortable and not too low to the ground. However we thought we should go with a small car for Greece. What is the difference between mini, compact and economy? With as much time as we will be spending in the car we are less concerned with price and more concerned with comfort and practical maneuvering through cities, mountains, highways etc. Any information would be appreciated.
A mini is REALLY small. Don't get one. As to the difference between the other two categories, you can get a sense of their sizes by looking at the Autoeurope or Kemwel websites. They show various options, with indicators of how many passengers and how many bags the vehicles hold. We have never had a problem fitting our two 20" bags into the trunks of cars that are shown to hold one, so I think they mean one very large suitcase. We did some driving around the Peloponnesus a few years ago, and I don't recall any particular problems.
