Beach vacation mid May??

Hi , I was in Greece once.. a few decades ago , in late September early October. Weather was great. We spent 2 days in Athens( which I could skip ever seeing again .. sorry) but two weeks on Paros and Mykonos.. loved the islands. We were young and it was fun as heck!

We are taking a month in Europe next May.. starting in Amsterdam( cheap flight) and then visiting London to meet a friend.. after that we are trying to decide where to go next.. We loved south Spain and are thinking about revisiting a few places on Costa Brava coast.. maybe even Mallorca.. looking for a bit of sun and relaxation.

But really, I have always wanted to return to the Greek Cyclades islands.

Question.. looking at this being timed about mid May.. will it be weather wise ok,, are places opened up for season yet.. and which island do folks suggest .. I had considered Naxos this time.. but not sure.. same with Santorini.. not even opposed to returning to either Mykonos or Paros either. We don't mind a bit of hustle bustle. .we are a group of couple , adult daughter, and adult female friend.. so not looking for romantic getaway!

We know no one can predict weather.. but just a general idea if its worth visiting the islands if our main goal would be beach relaxing and swimming ( we are Canadian so cold water to us is not like cold water to some ..lol .. anything over 70 seems ok to us)

"Everything" will be open by the time you get there. Unofficially, the season usually begins about a week before Greek Easter weekend, which is May 1 next year. And by mid-May the sea is warm enough for swimming, although I don't think it will have reached 70 by then.

Thanks Lee.. I had rather hoped answer would be that.... any suggestions on islands.. what do you think of Naxos,, we like beaches.. and smaller towns,, but enough cafes and restaurants to make wandering around fun.. .. ( which is why we did not like Athens.. its just like any other large gritty city to us)

Naxos is an excellent choice, similar in "possibilities" to Paros. If you stay on St. George Beach you'll be within easy walking distance to all that Naxos Town has to offer without being in the middle of it.
