Beach front hotel in Crete

Looking to go to Crete in June. Probably a 4 - 5 night stay and we are looking for a beach front resort. Doesn't have to be all inclusive, but includes breakfast. Never have been to Crete, so not even sure which area is the best to visit.

For anyone familiar with beach resorts in Mykonos, we stayed at the Acrogiali Beach Hotel there and loved it. This is the type of resort (right on the beach) we are looking for.

There are so many to choose from! Crete is a major tourist destination for beach holidays. I’d do a search on Expedia or similar. You can filter for resort hotel. As a starting point Grecotel is a Greek chain with several options in Crete.

Are you flying into Chania or Heraklion? Will you have a car? What’s your max. driving time to and from the airport? Beaches or history or both?

When flying into Chania: Kalyves or Almyrida, with Almyrida being more purpose built and Kalyves a year-round working town. Both within an hour’s driving time of Chania airport.

For Heraklion, you can look into Stalis (purpose built), Agios Nikolaos or Elounda.

Check out the Hotel Ammos, just outside Chania. https://www.ammoshotel.com A bit quieter than downtown Chania, right on the beach with a nice pool, excellent breakfast and very good restaurant. A bus going into town stops just steps away and, if you want, the hotel can arrange tours of the area. Rooms are lovely. modern and immaculate. We loved it.

Lucky you, Christine! Ammos is VERY hard to book, only 36 rooms I think ... it's the best of both worlds... right ON a beach & with a pool, just outside Chania Old Town, with local bus that stops on inland side of hotel.

Just returned from our Greece trip and Ammos, west of Chania, really delivered! Lovely location as well as incredibly helpful, kind staff! We enjoyed our accommodations as well as their fantastic restaurant and thoughtful design details. There were a few young families there with incredibly well-behaved kids, so if you are looking for an adults-only type of resort experience this is likely not the place for you. Greeks are very welcoming when it comes to children and it seems that Ammos has built a reputation on this, which I personally found quite charming.
