Athens to Santorini - fly or ferry?

Hi all,

We are going to be in Greece for 6 days, with time spent in Athens and Santorini.

We are trying to decide if it is best to fly (~45min) from Athens to Santorini, or take the slow scenic Blue Star Ferry (8 hours).
I have heard that the view of the islands from the ferry ride is fantastic, but I am hesitant to spend 8 hours stuck on a boat when our time in Greece is limited.

Any advice? Fly or ferry from Athens to Santorini?
If you have taken the ferry - was it worth the trip?

Thanks!

Because you have so little time to spend in Greece I believe your experience is best served by flying. When you first arrive fly straight out to Santorini. Save all your time on the mainland for the end of your trip so you don't have to scramble back to the mainland at the last minute for your flight home.

I'd take Lee's advice since your time in Greece is limited.

If you had more time, I'd recommend the Blue Star Ferry, because the ferry stops at other islands & yes... the scenery is amazing, especially as you approach Santorini.

Enjoy your trip!

We are going in October, we decided on the flight since our time is also limited.

I'm with the group - can't remember if its an overnight ferry or not. If it is overnight it wouldn't be too bad. But if its daylight thats about 10% of your nonsleeping time - guess you have to decide if the water views are worth it.
