Athens to Naxos flight transfer time

I am planning a trip in mid-June that will begin in Naxos. One ticket doesn't work out well from SFO, so I'm considering flying nonstop from SFO to Athens (probably on United) and then flying on a separate ticket with Olympic or Sky Express from Athens to Naxos. How much time do you recommend allowing to make the change if we only have carryon luggage? I see one possible option that would give us a little over 2.5 hours to catch the last flight to Naxos at 6:20 pm.

To fly on one ticket with Delta would require an additional stop in JFK or Atlanta, would take longer, and is less convenient overall.

Athens airport is very easy to Navigate. 2.5 hours is lots of time. What to expect. On arrival you will walk to the passport control station. Well signed to find it. The longest we have ever waited for passport control was 30 minutes. When your passport is stamped you find the exit doors. One door has a sign that says nothing to declare. There is no security personnel there just walk through the door and you are into the terminal.
Go up to the next level (elevator, stairs or moving stairs) and you will be in departures level. Both Olympic and sky express allow you to check in 2 days before your flight so you can proceed directly to the security check and into the departure lounge. The aircraft will be parked on the tarmac so you will catch a shuttle bus out to the aircraft.
For fun here are some images of Naxos.

Thank you, stanbr. I've read many of your posts and looked at your photos while doing my research. I will post at a later date for a review of our overall itinerary.

If you take the 6:20 p.m. Olympic flight to Naxos, note that there is a specific cabin baggage allowance on the ATR72 aircraft which operates this flight.
The maximum dimensions are 55cm x40cm x 23cm and a maximum weight of 8kgs
If your carryon luggage exceeds these dimensions you must purchase a ComfortFlex fare ticket and you will have to check in your baggage.

Also note that there is a Sky Express flight about 40 minutes later, also on ATR72s with the same weight and dimensions allowances for cabin baggage but with a unique Sky Enjoy fare which allows you to check in a 23kg baggage (and it is currently cheaper than the Olympic flight)

I did unconnected flights to Santorini the first time we went to Greece.

We bought flexible tickets that allowed us to change without penalty if need be. These also had a luggage allowance. You will need to check your bag if you have a standard carry on.

Thanks, JoLui and BethFL. I was aware of the carry-on limits--we managed to stick to similar limits on Lufthansa this past year so I think we will be okay.

I am a little concerned about whether they will count my daughter's CPAP machine as her personal item or allow it as an additional item since it's medical equipment. I haven't found any information about it on their websites. I know just a few European carriers don't allow the extra item. I will probably need to contact their customer service to find out.

I flew to Naxos last month on one ticket (from Skopje, North Macedonia) on Olympic Airlines. I had a checked bag, They said I would need to pick up my bag to go through customs and then recheck it. Passport control took a full hour at Athens. By the time I got to baggage claim, the luggage was gone. I checked with lost luggage, and fortunately I had my claim ticket. He looked it up and said it was cleared through customs already and rechecked.

I had about four hours between flights, and was glad for it. I would have been fine with 2 1/2,but I would have been pretty nervous.

If you have a checked bag, I hope you find it after going through passport control.

Have a great trip. Naxos is stunning!

By searching on Google "Aegean airline cpap", there is a result on the Aegean Facebook page which seems to be a reply from Aegean on August 9, 2024:

"We confirm that you can carry on board the CPAP device, in addition to your cabin luggage, free of charge. Kindly have with you the respective medical documents"

I don't have a Facebook account so I can't check further.

On the Aegean website there is a page about Portable Oxygen Concentrators (POC) on board (maybe not exactly the same device as CPAP)
