Has anyone tried the “Meteora by train” day trip from Athens? If so, what are your impressions?
Has anyone used a tour company that they would recommend for going from Athens to Meteora?
I haven't used either. Since no one has responded, I thought I'd chime in on how beautiful it was and that we spent the full afternoon and the next morning visiting monasteries. I was great. i personally am glad to have allocated so many hours.
Maybe a day-trip with a tour company can maximize your time and will get you door-to-door faster.
Unfortunately, they won't let you wander much. Our sons went climbing some of the 'cliffs' that were fit for safe scrambling.
Thanks for the feedback, Evan. We just returned, and ultimately invested the extra time and rented a car, and drove ourselves. We then took 2 tours, through “VisitMeteora.com” - their sunset tour, and morning hike, staying in Kastraki at Pyrgos Adrachti hotel. We are 100% satisfied with our decision; wouldn’t have changed a thing.
Like you said, this allowed us much more time to immerse ourselves in this totallly unique area. We had to shuffle our Island itinerary and priorities a bit to accommodate the time, but it was thoroughly worth it to us.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
