We are going to take the train from Athens to Meteora on our own. We are looking for contacts to pick us up and drive us around Meteora for a few hours. Any help would be much appreciated.
Recently there have been establlished DAY tours using that train .... https://www.viator.com/tours/Athens/Meteora-Day-Trip-by-Train-from-Athens/d496-2876P31 -- it includes the transportation from train to Kalambaka & met by pvt driver who will be with u for 3 hours, and enough time to visit 3 monasteries. The cost per person is about €143 including everything I belive, but if you can have 3 in the party, pric e drops dramatically (I think this is because of the pvt car element). You can cross-check what the cost would be for you to find a pvt. driver on your own.
When we were at Meteora there were several taxis driving people around. The people would get out of the car the taxi driver would wait for them until they returned and off they would go to their next site. I am pretty sure that there will be taxi drivers at the train station willing to do a day tour for you if you don't want to do the tour package.
You can also check the train (http://www.trainose.gr/en/) from Athens to Kalambaka (the village near Meteora). There are several trains per day. Most of them have a correspondence in Palaiofarsalos but there is also a direct train.
