Athens to Hydra Ferry

My wife and I are heading to Athens, Greece in two days (Nov 1) for a two week tour. We have booked two nights in an airbnb in Hydra for 11.3 and 11.5. I have not been able to book ferry tickets to get there and back. I'm starting to worry we won't be able to go there. Does anyone have any suggestions or tips? Do they not run ferries during November?

Any other suggestions for how to get there economically? We will be out in the cold if we can't make it there.

Thanks

Russ

Have you contacted your Airbnb host? They should know all the details of how to get from Athens to their place.

What website were you given by your airbnb host?

I would think your airbnb host would know if there are ferries running in November & help you out by giving you this information.

I cannot find any ferries for November when I search here: https://www.gtp.gr

It looks like Hellenic Seaways may offer two daily ferries (9:30 & 17:00) from Piraeus to Hydra in November, but when I tried to book for your dates, I got this message:

This itinerary is not open yet.
For further assistance please contact +30 210 41 99 000

I'd suggest you contact Hellenic Seaways (tonight) & ask if the ferry will be running on your dates.

Hope this helps...

You may have solved this problem, but for what it's worth, I tried the following: TripAdvisor > Hydra Town> Hydra Town overview> scroll to "Forum" > the first post about how to get there> scroll through answers to Hellenic ferry link. When I followed it I was able to get 2 options. I worked through until I would have had to pay.

Good luck!

Patty,

It's odd that when I tried to book the ferry tickets last night, via Hellenic Seaways, it was not showing the schedules.

I hope Russ was able to get his tickets today, or he'll get them when he arrives to Athens, from any of the many travel agencies.

Priscilla- not sure where Russ lives ( I.e. Time zone) so I'm not sure whether this got to him in time to be useful. I'm not sure why the website I used seem to go farther, but because of your helpful advice, I played with it to see how far I could go before I would have to pay. I hope they make it.

Russ,

Just wondering... Were you able to get to Hydra via ferry?

This information may be helpful to others in the future.
Thanks!

We get back to Athens after a trip to Meteora on Thursday and are planning to be in Hydra on Saturday night for a festival. We will have already traveled the Peloponnese for 10 days and made it to Delphi and Housia Loukas as well as Sounio. Should we spend Friday night in Hydra (we currently are booked to be there for the last day of a 3 day festival) or is there a better way to use that time.

Thanks so much for giving us some ideas.

Remember this post is old and was asking about schedules in NOV 2016. Russ was just asking if it worked for them.

Hey all -- I'm married to the original poster here and yes, we were able to get tickets to Hydra. We bought them ahead of time on fantasticgreece.com. I think we were needlessly worried. The catamaran was not nearly full, but having the tickets booked put our minds at ease. We traveled on a weekday in the off season (Thursday in November). It also helped to know the schedules ahead of time so we could plan our time most efficiently.

We had a similar problem when we tried to book a ferry from Venice to Rovinj Croatia, compounded by the fact that once the boat companies put their timetables up, I could see schedules for our boat but that the boat was still moored in the same port same location every day.

It looks like Greeks just don't post that far ahead. I am trying to get tickets for a ferry from Pireaus to Hydra in June (and have booked 2 nights there) but can't get tickets. I can, however find April tickets and figure in a few weeks, the June schedule will be online. While so many of us organize our trips months (and perhaps years) in advance, what might make Greece such a great place to relax and play is that they get everything done but not at the hectic pace we are used to at home.
