I am interested in this tour. The original idea was to do more of an island tour, Santorini, Mykonos, etc. but I am tempted to pivot. The only island stop on this tour is Hydra, which would be amazing. Not sure what I am asking. Do you think that we would be missing out if we took this tour and God forbid, didn't make it back to Greece?

We’re taking this tour in September - we opted for the historic/cultural information that RS tours provide (this will be our third RS tour) - and, the tour does provide time to relax at the beach at certain times if so desired. We consider these tours a wonderful overview to the country we are visiting … and even if I don’t get back to Greece (which would be so sad☺️), I have no doubt that I will not feel as if I’ve missed anything and that I’ve gained enough knowledge to know where I want to “go back to” when I DO go back!

My wife and I love combining a RS tour with our own plans. So we just signed up for the new 8 day Greece tour (new tour added in 2027) to give us more time to do some Island hopping before and after the trip.
We plan to fly into Athens in the morning then take a plane to Milos and spend three days there before the tour starts to get over jet lag before the tour begins. We can then take a ferry back to Athens the day the RS tour starts. Then after the tour we are planning on spending 10 days island hopping before going home.
Now I just have to figure out which islands to visit.

Would you be able to squeeze out maybe at least like five or so extra days? An island stay would be a great way to cap off a Greek tour. But I think you would probably miss out more by just going to islands and not doing this tour if you wanted something more historical out of the trip.

9 of the nights on the tour are on small towns on the Mediterranean - honestly, just like visiting the islands. Hydra is amazing not because it's an island but because there are no motorized vehicles (well, the police have one). You will absolutely not be missing out.
Well, there is a difference now that I think of it. The islands I've been to had some sandy beaches. The tour doesn't include any. But the beaches on the tour were gorgeous. Just bring water shoes.
